I'm not sure what Bubba's bike are weighing in at but Robbie's XR was 296 pounds with oil in the crankcase, but no fuel in the tank.
Robbie's takeoff ramp is exactly 120" high and 14 degress and Evel's normal ramp was only 100.8" high and If I remember correctly about 10 degress. Remember tho' Evel had to elevate his ramp in London about 5' off the arena floor to get high enough to clear the buses. It didnt change his trajectory, but put him almost 24' into the air at his apex.
The CR-500 by comparison weighs 223 dry. 73 pounds lighter than EK's bike and believe it or not, Robbie doesn't weigh much more than Evel did, the last I knew, he was about 178 pounds.
Obviously the great advantage RK had was the suspension and the quick throttle response.
: Bubba's XR750 weighs no more than my TT500.
: It's probably lighter. At 90 mph you will
: overshoot your landing ramp by 100 feet if
: you use Robbies takeoff ramp. You have to
: remember as technology over shadowed skill,
: the speeds went way down and the suspension
: took away most of the danger on landing. The
: new suspension did have it's problems. Look
: at most of Robbies crashes and you will see
: what too stiff of front suspension will do
: on landing. You will get thrown over the
: handlebars. IF someone wanted to try and
: better Evel jumping 16 buses, they will need
: to use ramps like Evel used or it's not the
: same. ANY FMX rider could jump twice the
: distance of Wembly and then turn around and
: do it again. That's why the jumps are boring
: now. The perceived danger we put in our
: jumps starting with Evel's is no more. This
: is just my opinion and does not in any way
: try to take anything away from any jumper.
: To me, this is just the way it is. To kinda
: quote Evel, "You don't see any
: daredevils lining up to jump long lines of
: cars do you"!

: i don't agree--I think 16 buses would be a
: difficult jump on an XR750 traveling over
: Ken, you may have jumped 16 feet or so
: farther than Bubba Blackwell's longest jump,
: but it still wasn't on a XR-750.
: At the cyclejumpers site, there's at least
: two photos of you on a motocross.
: so, just out of curiousity, did you make
: your long jump on a motocross or a flattrack
: 16 buses is no problem on a CR-500...but,
: apparently, it was on the HD since RK never
: even did a practice jump on the XR750.
: also, as an fyi, EK's furthest jump was 133
: and BB's was 157--so, as we near 40 years
: since EK made the Kings Island jump, i'm a
: little surprised that an XR750 has only made
: it only 24 more feet than Evel Knievel's
: longest jump.
: maybe--just, maybe, that's because EK knew
: how to jump a bike not designed to jump.
: but, i suppose it doesn't matter because
: Kaptain RK will likely never make a jump on
: a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

: An easy jump for a real jumper. Robbie would
: have had room to spare. Remember, Evel's
: ramps are not being used, therefore the
: speed of the jump is a lot less then what
: Evel had to get up to. Plus, Robbie can
: actually ride a bike. (No offence Evel)
