Re: Reason Evel crashed at Caesers Palace...
Hey first post, but since Ken posted this awesome pic and Caesars is my favorite jump.... The 4X4 in question is actually an end part of his ramp. He had several spaced down to the end, and bolts went through them to secure the ramp in place. Since his ramps were heavy, they used a forklift to extract them from big red. At that time of Caesars and before I believe he used a steel diamond plate safety ramp that went over the cars or in this case the Montesa van. There is another photo that shows the safety ramp in the air after hitting it, and he put what looks like padded bags to keep the van from being damaged. If he maybe put blocks under the van to bring it up even with the ramp, it might of turned out differently. Just a guess on that last part. Later on the safety ramp he went all steel (19 car and Ontario.)Keep up the Great posts!
: And here i thought you were going to say he
: was drunk like that new book claims for the
: 19 car and canyon jump..lol..

: The reason for Evel Knievel's Caesars Palace
: crash! Evel's rear wheel (blue arrow) hit
: just before a 4 x 4 (red arrow) ontop of a
: van holding up a makeshift safety deck. The
: rear wheel was then lifted up (bounced) over
: the 4 x 4 throwing Evel over the handlebars.
: This is just my observation and it is only
: my opinion.
