A kidnapper is suing his victims, claiming they reneged on a verbal contract in which they agreed to hide him in exchange for cash. And then the story gets weird.

Jesse Dinnick, a fugitive wanted on a murder charge, broke into the Topeka, Kansas, home of newlyweds Jared and Lindsay Rowley in September 2009. The couple fed him Cheetos and Dr Pepper and watched the film Patch Adams with him to gain his trust, then fled the house after he fell asleep, reports the Topeka Capital-Journal.

In the tussle that followed, Dinnick was accidentally shot by Officer Guy Gardner’s rifle. Dinnick launched a lawsuit against the city and the cop, according to the report. He is seeking $75,000 in damages - the same amount the Rowleys are suing him for. He also filed a counterclaim against the Rowleys. Dinnick said the couple is legally bound to honour an oral agreement they made to hide him.

All three lawsuits are still pending.
