Missing Braunton PC

My G Grandfather was George Shaw, a well-known Devon artist. His brother, John Shaw, is shown in C61 as a PC in Braunton; born Derby. Wife & son likewise. John and family do not appear in any records I have found after that one Devon entry. Where did they go??

According to newspaper reports in 1862, he went to court over someone who he said was drunk and abusive towards him.

It looks like he fabricated the evidence (witnesses including his own sergeant sided with the accused).

It doesn't mention what happened to him, but I would suspect that he left the police, and probably the area, after that.

Perhaps he emigrated?

Have you tried Devon police museum? if you google that I think it is in Okehampton, and stuff also in Exeter at the heritage centre.
