grandad

Hi,I am looking for the where abouts of my Grandad who passed away in 1964 i am not sure if he was buried or cremated at the time. He was living with my uncle george at the time in teignmouth. i have his death certificate but that does not give me any clues.I have been looking for quite a while now but with no luck and i must have sent quite a few emails. i cant ask my uncle george about it has he hass passed away his self. heres hoping some one can help me.

Would need a lot more information than you have given. No names given. Only one Lowrey died 1964 registered in Plymouth, Devon, and that is a Sydney aged 70.
Is this your grandfather?

Sorry my grandads name was John George Henry Rickard. No Sydney aged 70 in Plymouth is not my grandad. [img]img_20250630_0001[/img]

I assume this is the entry for your grandfather in the GRO death indexes;
Deaths Mar 1964
RICKARD JOHN G H 77 NEWTON A. 7A 565

As the death was registered in Newton Abbot I would contact the Cemetery Office at Teignbridge District Council to see if he is buried in one of their cemeteries. Contact number is 01626 215850.

If that fails try Torquay Crematorium (the nearest crematorium to Newton Abbot)to see if he was cremated there. Contact number is 01803 327768.

Teignbridge sits between Torbay and Exeter, so cremations are carried out at both crematoria.

Also he was 77 when he passed and his wifes name was Alice she passed first.

I see Alice Rickard's death was registered in Totnes district. Might John George be buried with her? The only way would be to check closest Crematorium to your Grandad's last known address as they would have records. Failing that, a trawl round all the churches close to the address. Again they should have records.

Thanks Sally. I knew my Nan was cremated in the Efford Crematorium, also i have asked Efford if my Grandad was there with her and they have said they have no record of him being there. Its a mystery to where he is i have wrote so many emails over the last couple to crematoriums and churchs i just cant find him any where!!. So are you saying you cant find him aswell?. Take Care.

Plymouth also had a second Crematorium at Weston Mill and a very large cemetery. Cremations were carried out there until earlier year

There isn't anything on line for that time.
Have you tried Torbay Crematorium, that is not far from Teignmouth?
