Discom/Discombe

Hi there,
My 3rd great grandparents were James Discombe and Ann (Call) They had 3 daughters. Mary Ann was born in 1842 in Jersey and Emma was born in 1844 in Jersey but by the time Elizabeth Jane was born in 1847 they were back in Plymouth. James was originally from Sandford, Devon and Ann was from Teigngrace. Elizabeth Jane is my direct line. James I know dies when Elizabeth was 2 years old leaving Ann destitute with 3 small children. I have Ann remarrying in 1855 to John O'Connor-variations on spelling. I cant find anything on Ann, John or Mary Ann Discombe after 1861 with the exception of Elizabeth Janes marriage in 1866 to Frederick Foley. The trail seems to go cold. Can anyone help-assuming that is allowed?

I found her on 1861 census living Kingsteignton with her uncle and aunt listed as housemaid, they are John 53 and Betsey Burridge .

Emma Discombe

Emma marries Patrick George Hallahan in 1862.

There is a copy of the marriage cert on Ancestry.

Her father is shown as James (deceased).

Address for both bride and groom is 3 Eldad (?) Place, Plymouth.

Patrick is in the Royal Navy.

Witnesses are Mary Ann Discombe and Matthew Lynch

Thank you ladies. I have this info. I cant find Mary Ann after this. I know that her mum is remarried to John Oconnor-various spellings! I cant find them in 71 forward census. I have Elizabeth Jane and know lots about her.

This is a hard one. suggest you get the marriage cert of John Connor and Ann to get his occupation, age ,and see how they sign the surname.

Do you have John O'Connor/Connor and Ann's marriage cert?

His father's name might help to pin down the place he was born in Ireland.

The family may have moved there after the 1861 census.

National archives site has some info, looks as if Ann relocated to Sandford, in 1850.
James her husband died in Plymouth from Cholera. He was illigit son of Elizabeth Discombe, later wife of Charles Venecombe.
James Discombe was apprenticed in Sandford., they married in St Helier.
Ann was daughter of Peter and Ann Cole.

Thanks for that. I have the marriage certificate and know all anout James as he was my 3rd GGF. Just cant find any trails if Ann with John in the Uk ir on records leaving UK. I am not exactly proficient in records relocating. So could be missing something.At the time of the marriage they were living at 2 Cecil Place, Plymouth. His father was called Bartholemew. On this certificate they call him John Conner.
I am at the other end of the country as Elizabeth relocated with her husband and children.

just a hunch, she married in St Helier the first time, and if you go on familysearch.org there are Cole families there, perhaps they went to the channel islands, have you looked there?
Perhaps she was born in Devon and moved to Jersey with parents. There were lots of people going across from Plymouth area at that time.
