Which Richard Pepperell?

My 3xggf Richard Pepper(r)ell was baptised 24 Aug 1760 in Exeter St Mary Major, his parents were Charles and Joan (Hodge) Pepper(r)ell, and he married Hannah Evan(e)s on 03 Jan 1791 in Exeter St Mary Major. I cannot find a death record for him though.

The trouble is a lot of family trees on Ancestry, etc., are linking another Richard Pepperell, baptised 23 Dec 1759 by A. Tozer at All Hallows on the Walls (Presbyterian) or Bow Now Mint Meeting / Georges Meeting House (Prexeterrian) depending on which register you look at, his parents were Robert and Esther (Wills) Pepperell. This Richard married Francis Harker on 9 Oct 1786 and died in Palace Street, Exeter on 22 Dec 1840.

Can anyone help with finding my Richard's death record so that I finally confirm the family bloodline.

I have had the same problems, people making trees but not doing the research properly. It took years before my cousin managed to "sort out"our 4xgreat grandfather. Now I have worked the line back on his mothers side, which I am sure is right. Everyone needs to double check/triple check before posting trees on line.

I have looked at one tree on ancestry which seems to have one of the children (William Harker Pepperell) apparently the son of Richard and Hannah, but he is actually the son of Richard and Frances. The death in 1840 of Richard Pepperell, I think relates to the Richard that married Frances because the burials of Richard and Frances both say of "Palace Street". Again on ancestry this death has been related to the Richard that married Hannah. So unless both Richards live in Palace Street which could have happened I suppose, I think that is also an error. There is a death of a Richard Pepperell in 1823, Exeter, aged 74 which means he was born in 1749, could not find any other in Exeter. I also could not find a burial for Hannah/Ann. Sally

Thank you for your reply. I spent best part of this morning looking at Findmypast trees and the majority have also made the same mistakes. FamilySearch is not much better. Where did you find the 1823 death record? Phillip

This is on FMP. Buried 16.02.1823 aged 74. of West Street, St. Mary Major, Exeter.

Thank you Sally, found it on FMP. I will start to see if it is a match to my 3xggf tomorrow. West Street is at least in St Mary Major parish. Many thanks.

I don't know if you already have this but I think I have found burial of Hannah Pepperell.
Anna Pepperell buried 08.12.1814. aged 47. St Mary Major, of Preston Street

I’m leaning towards Anna being Hannah as the Preston Street address crops up in other Pepperrell records. Looks like, with your help, I have finally split the the Richard Pepperrell families into my bloodline and another family line.

Working back Richard's father Charles (my 4ggf) was born in Thorverton in 1730, his baptism record states 26 Dec 1730. The record also shows that his father was Charles (5ggf) who was buried 23 Aug 1750 in Thorverton, still looking for where he was born/baptised.
