Frederick John Coombs (1865-1939)

Good afternoon, my name is Sebastián, I'm a librarian at the Museo, Biblioteca y Archivo Histórico Municipal de San Isidro "Dr. Horacio Beccar Varela", Argentina. I'm researching the life of a man named Frederick John Coombs, born in Torquay, Devonshire on January 3, 1865. Son of Samuel Edmund Coombs and Elizabeth Freeman, he studied at City of London College, and emigrated to Argentina in 1887, where he died in 1939.

It seems he went back to England sometime during World War I, when he was chief officer in the Home Grown Timber Department, related to Army supplies.

I'm writing an article about this person and his life in Argentina, but I can't find any pictures of him, either in our libraries or online, and I figured someone here might point me in the right direction.

I appreciate any orientation you can provide on this subject.

I could not find a Frederick John Coombs born 1865 Torquay. There is a birth registration March Quarter 1865 in Poplar, London. Maiden name is Freeman. Parents -
Samuel (Edmund) Coombs married March Q. 1853. Shoreditch, London, Eliza Jane Freeman. Samuel (Edmund) Coombs died in 1870 and Eliza Jane (Freeman) Coombs remarried in 1878 a Thomas Jarrett.
This might be of help to you as some of the information you gave does tie up.

I mostly use Ancestry (UK). However maiden name on birth is from the General Register Office (GRO), Index section. If there is anything else I may be able to help you with, please let me know.

Further to my last post, I have just found a Frederick John Coombes born 05.02.1863. baptised
05.04.1863. Tormoham Torquay. His parents were John and Patience Thorne, married 01.05.1862. Clifton, Bristol. Do you think this is where the Torquay connection comes from?

There is a museum in Torquay which has an archive, it's worth contacting them to see what they have, or can suggest other places to try.

Thank you Paul! I wrote to them last week, they told me they are a bit busy right now setting up a new exhibition, and it'll take some time for them to get back to me to see if they can help, so in the meantime I figured I could try some other channels, like this one.
