William Dowdall, Pilton

William Dowdall born Pilton 13 Feb. 1803 is my 4 x g.grandfather. I thought I had finished my family tree but i found a William Dowdall on the Devon quarter Sessions, Epiphany 1834. DRO O8 32/117
Could someone kindly advise me where i can apply to see if this person is my g.grandfather or someone with the same name

William Dowdall, painter & glazier of Barnstaple was mentioned in the Exeter & Plymouth Gazette of 7th July 1827 as an insolvent debtor. He was in partnership with a man called Rew.

A William Dowdall (an incorrigible vagabond) was given a sentence of 3 months on the treadmill for 'leaving his family chargeable to Loxhore'. North Devon Journal 13th Sept 1832

Thank you for your reply, I have finished my Dowdall tree and would love to know what my great grand father got up to. Its hard to believe he left his wife and four sons, He moved to Swansea and was a glazier and an Inn Keeper which is what he did in Pilton. By now William had ten children who were well educated and had good jobs so it would be nice to find out about any thing wrong prior to moving to swansea.

Not much information for you there, might not be your relative, the only hint is that he had a family, and had left them (for the 3rd time!!)
Might be another one who would need to be eliminated
