Gertrude PETHERBRIDGE

HI Everyone:- I am trying to find some details on the above GERTRUDE PETHERBRIDGE born 1875 one of the three children registered to MARY PETHERBRIDGE in the Newton Abbot Workhouse register. I cannot locate an actual birth registration for Gertrude NOR a death.

All of Mary Petherbridges were born and baptised it seems in the workhouse. Mary Elizabeth (1873); Gertrude (1875) and Sydney George (1880). I was never able to find Mary PETHERBRIDGE on the 1881 Census. Thanks for any help. Kind regards Dianna

There's an Annie Gertrude registered in Newton Abbot in 1875, no mother's maiden name on the GRO Index.

All with different spellings of surname.

PETHBRIGE, ANNIE GERTRUDE -
GRO Reference: 1875 J Quarter in NEWTON ABBOT Volume 05B Page 127

And the death of a Annie:

Deaths Sep 1876
PETHERBRIDGE Annie 1 Newton A. 5b 91

Burial in Wolborough in September of an Annie aged 18 months.

Hi Karen Thank you! I have her birth date as March 7, 1875 in Wolborough (Workhouse??) and baptised there on March 19, it looks like! Possibly! the one you found with Annie added! I guess the name Annie may have been added later??? Regards Dianna

I was looking for my grandfathers brother, known as Thomas, but registered as Elias, born in the workhouse. Was there with his mother and another brother on a census, so an alternative/additional name is possible. Eventually found he died in New Zealand, registered as Elias aka Thomas. Perhaps the registrar was a bit deaf!!!
