Another speaker at the Mayflower International Genealogical Conference http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/mayflower_conference.pdf on 28th August to join us via Zoom is Cor de Graaf MA who is based in Leiden, Netherlands, where he is the Deputy Director of Leiden Heritage.
His talk is “On the move” In the 16th and 17th centuries large groups of people were moving to other countries for different reasons. People from Flanders and Walloons moved to Norwich, people from England went to Leiden and groups of people went from Leiden to the New World.
The Pilgrims spent twelve years living, working and praying in Leiden, free from religious persecution by the English crown. They were English Protestants, who fled England to escape the oppressive regime of James I and the Anglican church. They lived and worked in Leiden and their history is recorded through hundreds of original centuries old documents held in the Archive.
