Spiller ancestors Yarcombe

This is a long shot, my 3xgreat grandfather Robert was baptised a Spiller, at Yarcombe and married as a Spiller, but when he went back with children to be baptised, was listed as Pavey. When his son Robert Jnr sold the property (Emmetts Farm)first bought by Robert snr, there was a document saying that Robert senior was a son of Mary Pavey and a man named Spiller.(Devon record office)
There was also a Benjamin Spiller baptised at the same time, later on the census described as a cousin to one of the sons of the baptismal parents. I think that the parents of these two children died, and the brother of the "man named Spiller", Henry and his wife Mary took them in and brought them up.
Are there any Spillers out there who know of this and can help me work out who was "the man"? I have found a Robert Spiller who died about that time, and also a Mary Pavey who died , but no ages on the records.

Robert and Benjamin baptised Yarcombe 1800, Robert about 18months according to records and Benjamin 6 months. Robert married Mary Blackmore at Yarcombe. youngest child was registered so got mothers maiden name from cert, and worked it the other way, as we were looking for a marriage of Robert Pavey for a long long time!!!!!
Benjamin on 1851 census living with Henry Spiller (jnr) and Charlotte Spiller, children of Henry and Mary Spiller, described as cousin.
Robert Married Mary Blackmore as Spiller in 1822, died in 1847 aged 50.
Bought what is now Emmetts Farm, (newbuild?), in 1842.

Might be a complete red herring, but there was a John Pavey married Mary Spiller, 05.08.1787. Axminster. Not too far from Yarcombe. There are 3 Mary Spillers bapt. Yarcombe in the right time scale. I found three baptisms for children of John and Mary Spiller, one was a Robert 27.12.1794.

Are you aware that The National Archives website has a record listed for a SARAH PAVEY apprenticed to a WILLIAM SPILLER in 1791, Yarcombe?

The actual record is held by the DRO/SW Heritage Trust.

Yes am aware, but the documentation I have seen tells me that his mother was Mary Pavey, and father is a man named Spiller. Another thought, have found a Benjamin Spiller, who is still alive in 1841 living near Robert and his wife, so perhaps he was the father, and the vicar got the name wrong? Then if Mary died in the 1830's, there is one then, perhaps they were his parents? I think Mary was daughter of Robert and Sarah of Whitestaunton, which is not far away, in Somerset, born 1763, Benjamin born 1765 son of Robert and Elizabeth.So first child could be named after her father and his father, then Benjamin after the father? Possible that Mary had 2 more children earlier in the 1790's (perhaps with a different father!!) no father listed, in Yarcombe. The trouble is that there are several Mary Paveys!! some married some single, so am spoilt for choice!! This conundrum of Roberts birth took over 10 years to sort out!! and looks like going on a bit longer!! Was hoping that someone has a family bible with all the names in it!!!!

Hi Judith,
I notice that on the marriage of Robert and Mary Blackmore, one of the witnesses is a Simon Spiller. Have you looked into his possible connection? I found a Simon bapt 09.1.1800. son of Abraham and Elizabeth

I think he was the parish clerk, witnessed other marriages. Once again there are more than one with that name!!

He is on 1841 census 73 and looks like it says parish clerk.
