Anyone know origins of SING family of Great Torrington? I have researched the PETER SING family: Peter Sing 1775-1880 (husband of Sarah Toms and father of Peter), Rugmaker, son of Peter Sing Junior (husband of Jane Lake), Rug weaver, buried 14/09/1796, presumed son of Peter Sing (husband of Grace Veal), Weaver, buried 19/10/1796.
No record to indicate birth of the last mentioned Peter in Great Torrington, but records for St Margaret's, Westminster, show a Peter Sings born on 22/08/1717 to John Sing and Joana and likely brother called John born to John and Joana 16/07/1714. A John Sing was buried at Great Torrington on 28/10/1800 and thought to be aged 83. Could these be brothers and have gone from Westminster to Great Torrington?
Could John Sing (s), the potential father of John and Peter be the John c.18/11/1685 in Great Torrington or the John c.15/02/1685 in Barnstaple?
Interested in replies regarding the SING family of North Devon.
There are other sing families there at the same time, given that it is an unusual name would be worth checking them out, and maybe a common link would turn up.
Thank you Judith for your response. With regards to a link between the Sing family of Devon and the Sing family of London in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, there was also a William Sing who married Susanna Petty in 1712 at St Benet Paul's Wharf. Could he have been the twin brother of John Sing(s)? William and John Sing c. 15/02/1685 at Barnstaple. Also Joana Sing married William Turner in London in 1728. Could this be a Joane Sing c. 15/02/1685 Barnstaple?
