Vanstone ancestors

Having looked at Ancestry Message Boards I now know that John Vanstone and Mary Brag's children don't match up with my family history! I need to find the John and Mary whose children were born in Plymouth - Elizabeth in 1796 and James in 1797.
(James was my 3x great grandfather who later lived in Hartland.)

An Eliz daughter of John & Mary Vanstone was baptised at St Andrew, Plymouth in 1796

A John son of John & Mary Vanstone was baptised at St Andrew, Plymouth in 1797

Thanks Chris. Would like to find out when and where John and Mary were married. Have been searching for the wrong couple!!!

A John Vanstone married a Mary Brag at Clovelly in 1794 - again image from parish register available on Findmypast

I wondered how you know Mary's surname, have you confirmed with other records that John did marry a Mary Brag.

It might also be worth searching using spelling variations of the surnames. Also remember that not all parish registers are index or available on any of the sites.

Devon FHS have indexed marriage for 1754 to 1837 and I think it covers all of Devon, at least where registers have survived or been deposited in one of the Archives. This can be accessed in the Members' Area of the website by DFHS Members.

It's also possible that they did not marry in Devon.
