Have you looked at alternative spellings? I have worked out that there were 2 John Pyne/Pine names on census for 1851 in Exmouth, discounting the one not on the beach, looked for birth on findmy past in 1783,which ties up with death on 1855, am assuming you have death cert, 1783 gives a baptism in Plymouth St Andrew father William. found a marriage of William to Jane in 1760, which is pushing it to be parents, BUT could be, as could have married young, and late pregnancy in her 40's, OR if they had a daughter Jane could have been her son, with a father named woods. |
Census for Jane wife of John gives her birth as Venn Ottery, baptised Harpford (harford) father Robert. If she and John named William Robert after his grandfathers, that would confirm William as father of John. If William senior died and Jane remarried to someone named Woods then that would explain the allotment to his mother with Woods name.
As John Pine/Pyne is a mariner, then no guarantee that he was born in Sidmouth, or Exmouth. (littleham is the parish for Exmouth)
Hope this is of help. I have same problem but 100 years earlier!!!! That is my brick wall!!!!Good luck
