Hello to all, would love to find my Ashton ancestor's from Welcombe, Devon in the 18th century, as I have hit a brick wall for year's. I would be very grateful for any answer's. Kind regard's, from Carole.

The marriage records run from 1757, earlier than this will prove difficult to research. Your request lacks detail, please tell us the records that you have researched.

Hello John, thank you for your reply. I ( may ) have a Digory Ashton who married a Elizabeth Roobye in May 1631 in Welcombe, Devon who I hoped were ancestor's. I can't remember where I found this information, I just hoped it was connected to MY Diggory ( 2 g's ) Ashton who passed away in Welcombe in 1742. Although as you say there are no marriage record's going back that far. I have been offline for a while, so I will check- up my info. Again, thank you for reply, kind regard's, from Carole.

According to all Transcripts that I have found, Digory Ashton married Elizabeth Roobye 4th May 1631, in Lanteglos by Camelford, Cornwall.

Hello Tim, thank you for your reply. I did have those date's, and because I have hit a brick wall, I saw the Name's in the past and try to come forward instead of backward ( if you know what I mean ). It's trying to see IF they are connected. I am very grateful for your help with this, kind regard's, from Carole.

Carole it crossed my mind as to whether you picked up the marriage of 1631 in a banns register rather than the actual marriage register. In general the earliest baptism/ marriage/ death church registers date from 1538 in English churches. I do not know of the history of Welcombe church but possibly the earlier records were lost in say a fire or damaged by damp or pests. I do not know if a banns register did exist and an alternative possibility is that somebody transcribed the entries in a family bible.

Hello John, thank you for your reply, it was Bann's and not Marriage. I still can't find where I had it from. It was from a site and not from a family Bible. As I have told Tim above, I am trying to come downward's and hope that work's IF there is a connection. Kind regard's, from Carole.
