Hi Karen |
As far as I know, my Rogers family lived in Pill, Steynton, pembrokeshire. William George Rogers was born 6 October 1863 ( according to his naval records) his parents were William and Sarah née Morris. He was registered as Thomas George which was wrong. His elder brother was Thomas. William George was a shipwrights Royal Navy. I have his naval records. He was living in Pill, Steynton in 1881.i In 1891 he was on the ship Leander. In 1901 he was on HMS Warspite. I had trouble finding my grandmother but after some professional help, it was decided that she may have been as follows--
15 Windsor Terrace Lenarth South Glamorgan
Matilda J Pyle age 37 mistress of orphanage ( institute) born Cardiff
Fanny A Waterfield 45 cashier born Plymouth
Mary Weeks a boarder age 13 born Cardiff
Edith Rogers age 6 ? Boarder born Cardiff ?
A possibility! A couple of bits wrong but it could be the posh lady my grandmother remembers. Also William may have known of Matilda as she came from Plymouth as did Fanny.
And of course William himself was welsh.
I haven't got a gwendoline May Rogers as far as I know. But I wonder where her Haines mother came from. Was she Elizabeth?
Will keep thinking.
Thanks for getting in touch.
