Hi Malcolm, the marriage registers prior to 1837 did not record the names of parents. It was with the start of civil registration in 1837 only the father's name and occupation appeared. The registers prior to 1837 were laid out as required by law; this only included the names of bride, groom and witnesses. It's always worth a look at the witnesses' names, often one of the parents or siblings of the couple marrying.
