I think my 4x great grandfather was John PINE baptised at Sidmouth on 27-3-1782, illegitimate son of Mary Pine.
I think John was a parish apprentice from 1789. When he reached 21yrs, I think he joined the Royal Navy.
My query regards his mother Mary Pine. What might have happened to her? I couldn't see anything in Sidmouth parish registers but maybe you can. John Pine did many years active service in the Navy during which time he went by an alias -James Woods. Why that name? Does it crop up anywhere in Sidmouth or there abouts. I wondered if it was his father. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
