My ancestor, John Mansfield, was born in Devon in 1764 and in 1788 he enlisted with the HEIC and shipped out to India on board the HEIC ship Valentine. There he married a local woman and had four daughters. He was a gunner with the 1st battalion, Madras European Artillery. By 1805 he was sargeant, which he remained until his death in 1815. Can anyone help with records of John at, or prior to his enlistment please.
