The 1841 census shows that William Heath was married to Grace and they are both shown as born in 1776. I have established that they had 4 children, born between 1809 and 1816 in Churchstow.
Grace died in 1847 in Aveton Gifford and William died in 1853, also in Aveton Gifford.
I have hunted for William and Grace's marriage on FMP, Ancestry and Family Search and the only suitably dated possibility is that of William Heath and Grace Woodey in Plymouth in May 1805.
I have doubts about this match as the record shows that William is a seaman of the 'Fisguard'. Is this the name of his ship or his place of origin? The William Heath of Bigbury is recorded in 1841/51 as an Ag Lab.
The marriage record adds further confusion by showing an alternative William surname of 'Poppleston'.
Any suggestions as to other sources which might help to establish Grace's maiden name would be much appreciated.
Regards,
John Bennett
