The name of the university in St. John's (there's only one) is Memorial University of Newfoundland (a.k.a. MUN). They have a research centre called the Maritime History Archive (MHA), whose website is at https://www.mun.ca/mha/. While the facility is currently closed to researchers during the COVID-19 lockdown, they're apparently still providing online research services. It may be worthwhile contacting them.
