Re: Greenwich School Boys
I have an ancestor, Charles Arthur Pine, who was admitted to Greenwich Hospital School in 1844. I put my ancestor's name in the National Archives website, and up the information came. 100% certain it was my guy as on admission much information about the father was given, including his name (John Pine) and his father's alias James Woods. From this I have been able to research the different ships the father served on and the battles he would have witnessed during 10 years of Napoleonic warfare, mainly off the coast of America. Most of the time as Ordinary Seaman, the last couple of years as Able Bodied. I recommend Greenwich Hospital School website to get a background of what life was like at the school during different periods.. Some people may remember, many years ago I wrote a DFHS magazine article about the ferryman, John Pine of Exmouth. One and the same man, this was his life post R.N.
