I had a reply to my note on ancestry.co.uk message boards. They had got the info from findmypast.com which I don't subscribe to. The dates refer to baptisms at Pilton, Devon. The only relevant census I can find is 1841 for Charles P Melton who, by then, had moved to London and the family did know that. Marie
