In 1901 he was living at Quarry Road, Wolborough. Included in his household were siblings Lucy Heil (5) and brother Henry(3). Exeter was shown as the place of birth of both but Henry's birth was registered in Isle of Wight and he was baptised in Newport, I O W. They were the children of Ludwig (a k a Louis) Heil and Elizabeth Bessie Clapp. On Lucy's marriage certificate her father's occupation is given as "musician", and on 1911 Ludwig and Henry are recorded together in Ventnor, I O W,as musicians, members of the Anglo Bavarian Band.
The Anglo Bavarian Band seems to have been based principally in Ventnor but also had connections with Devon. A report in the Exmouth Journal of 21 March 1908 stated that the conductor, possibly Jacob Glass, was then in Bavaria attempting to recruit more members for the band. This was in a letter read out to the council asking if the band could be guaranteed work in the town.
It seems more than likely that Jacob Langswasser moved to Devon as a member of a band or to join an existing one.
