I am wearing my Old Tauntonians' Association, Southampton hat! (http://www.ota-southampton.org.uk/) We received a booket, "Letters to Leonard, First World War Letters from India, Burma, and the Western Front, by Adrian Fray". Leonard (Albert Henry Leonard (Len) Fray b 1892 d 1951 was a pupil at Taunton Trade School c 1900-06. Two friends wrote the letters, George W Pearce and Alfred E Pearce who served in the Hampshire Regiment during WWI but in different units. Pte G. W. Pearce No. 3400 was with the 4th Hants (2nd Line) Regiment. Pte. A. E. Pearce No. 2247 was with 1/5th Hampshire Regiment. We have found the two 'boys', who were brothers. George W Pearce died in 21 Jan 1916 having disembarked on the 25 Oct 1915. Could he have disembarked in the West Country? (My father who was also in the Hants 1/5th disembarked in Falmouth Jan 1919.) I cannot find G W Pearce's death registration. Could he be William Pearse b abt 1894 Reg Yr 1915 Jan-Feb-Mar Exeter Devon Vol 5b Pg 153?
