The military record is on FMP. I was intrigued as the first name is Tom, rather than Thomas (as per some of the censuses).
He enlists on 1st Nov 1881, aged 19 yrs and 6 months, occ. farm labourer. The document is signed 19/21 Nov 1881. Place of birth is Honiton, Devon. Place of enlistment is Preston.
He has a large birth mark to the side of his navel and a scar on the left side of his back. Blue eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion.
The statement of service page states a date of discharge of 18.11.93, but there is another page giving more details of his movements:
Gibraltar to July 1882
East Indies March 1889
No place shown between then and May 1889
Then there is another entry stating 'Home' giving an end date of 18 Nov 1893.
This doesn't tie in with him being with the family on the 1891 census, so it might not be your Tom.
His parents are clearly shown as Henry and Jane, brother Albion, sister Jane, all of Asselby, Yorks.
