Prestolee and Ringley are all very close to each other and the family settled there for many years. My Great-grandfather is buried in St Saviours' in Ringley. as is Emily.
On the 1891 census the place of birth for Thomas (Tom as he was known) was translated as 'Herntha' and on the 1901 census it is translated as Hornton. Then on the 1911 it is shown as Hunston. However, looking closely at all these entries it is also possibly poor transcription and they all can be read as Honiton. My Grandfather was 93 when he died and still very sharp and he always insisted his father was from Honiton. I know there are lots of small villages which would probably confuse people and it was probably easier for Tom to say he was from Honiton. Similar to myself really, I always tell people that I am originally from Bolton when I am from a much smaller village outside Bolton. Also, as we well know' his age may not have been accurate, although, once again he always gives his year of birth as 1863 on successive census documents. Thanks for the hint though I will see if it throws up something new.
