I believe the Pine family on the Beach at Exmouth were of a different lineage to the Pynes in Exmouth who were stone masons or indeed the Pynes who were pilots. Generally my lot are spelt PINE - there are places in the registers where Pyne has been crossed out and 'my lot' have replaced it with PINE but nothing is black and white!
For years I have been chasing JOHN PINE born c1783 with little success. This is why I rather like the idea of an alias. I am going to Kew next week to look at the original record concerning Charles Arthur Pine and Greenwich Hospital School. Just maybe it will shed light on extra information to that given on the index.
