FreeBMD search shows birth registered Dec Q 1864 in the Newton Abbot civil registration district if you go onto freeBMD you can click on the registration district name [blue font] to find all the villages covered by the registration. The copy of the certificate will confirm his father's name and occupation and the mother's maiden name. Alternatively look up the 1861 census for the Newton Abbot area.
