I am part of the Torquay Library Local History Group and we are starting a new project together with Torquay Museum & local health community on the Spanish Flu epidemic.
Primarily we are looking at the effects on Torquay & Paignton as Brixhamites are doing their research separately. Of course we'll look at old newspapers etc to get a flavour of the reported progress of the 'flu. We know that American soldiers at the Oldway war hospital were hit hard and quickly.
But I want to make it more personal to the everyday folk. So I wonder if any of you fellow family historians have ancestors that died of it - or maybe survived it ? Stories or even just names will be a start.
I have a great aunt who died of it aged 18, a fit and healthy lady who died within hours of diagnosis which seems to be the norm.
So if you have anyone in your family please let me know.
Thanks in anticipation of the wonders of this forum !
