Thank you for your response, it is strange how another view can break the brick wall. It seems - I am awaiting confirmation but looks pretty positive - that Lucy Elizabeth Gould was the granddaughter of John Davey. Elizabeth Davey (nee Davey) was the second wife of my 3rd Gt grandfather John Davey - his first wife Grace Brayley died in 1830 following the birth of my 2nd Gt grandfather William Davey.

Elizabeth Davey went on to give John 2 sons John & George and a daughter Elizabeth - it was Elizabeth who was missing from my tree! As you suggested Elizabeth married William Gould and had 2 sons William A & George as well as a daughter Lucy Elizabeth who was born in 1879. Sadly after Lucy's death in 1884 William and Elizabeth did not have any other children.
