As someone used to IT and the monotony of working at a computer, I’ve always been skeptical of spiritual trips- I’m not religious, and cultural sites usually just make me want to get back to my laptop as soon as possible. However, my girlfriend was obsessed with the idea of seeing Sri Lanka’s ancient capital, so I gave in. We planned the trip at the end of February, a month before our departure. We looked at options on getexperience and chose Kandy beautiful places to visit in one day, which turned out to be more interesting than I expected. We were picked up right from Colombo in a comfortable, air-conditioned car, which was essential given the heat. The Temple of the Tooth Relic impressed me more for its architecture and atmosphere than for its religious significance. Even I, a pragmatist, enjoyed the walk around Kandy Lake and the view from Bahirawa Hill, where you can simply switch off your brain from work chats.
