Why not choose one show (Teampurebred junior event) to promote a CPS breed sired crossbred market division? All crosses must be sired by Spot, Poland. Hereford, or Chester boars that are DNA banked to verify boar parentage. (Maybe Berks and Tams even might join) DNA banking of sires would be necessary to prove sire parentage.
Ill concede up front that there are hurdles...breeders would have to commit to breeding for this market that currently doesnt even exist----I certainly dont breed my cross sows to my CPS breed boars. Further, we all know that in crosses there is a bias against any ear set except erect ears. I could go on with the challenges that our breeds have in being used in the crossbred show world.
However, something like might actually put legs to many of the complaints I hear and use about todays crosses. For example, crosses have become so diluted that they have lost their hybrid vigor. We all say that pures need to be used more to address this...why not CPS boars???
As for the popularity of erect earred crosses, who knows what might be the next popular show animal that kids desire??? It wasnt too long ago, that lesser known breeds were on the fringe. Herfs and Tams are know more popular in the show world than ever!!
Ok...thats my crazy out of the box contribution! Feel free to prune it, add to it, or pan it all together!!! Go!
