In far to many instances I’ve seen too many animals offered across all breeds that sell only because of whatever the current “trendy look” happens to be without regard to important growth standards. I admit usually these traits tend to be self limiting and due to environmental situations.
I for one think it’s time as breed leaders to prohibited these animals to be shown at our nationally santioned sales. Since we scan entries anyway it would be easy to enforce. Whether the bare minimum is 1.2 or 1.3 or more that’s up for debate, but it would be just a first small step in offering only fast growing growing seedstock to the breed as a whole. If breeders try to fudge farrowing dates to qualify that’s there problem but sets us apart as seedstock production leaders doing the right thing for the right reason! What’s your opinion?
