The Poland China family has lost one of its long-time Indiana breeders. Eugene McFarland passed away January 29, 2019.
Eugene was a well known breeder of high quality Poland China livestock for 32 years until he retired in 2014. Eugene had a huge passion for helping 4-H and FFA kids with their projects. His most prized possessions were the pictures he received from kids that he had sold pigs to with their banners from their projects. Luckily, I was one of those kids in 1994 where I purchased my first Poland from him, a “Lean Gene” gilt. From that day on I could count on him making frequent visits to see how we were doing and seeing him at our county fair and state fair walking up with a big smile on his face every year. I’m positive I was one of the many kids who he showed this much compassion for. My family and I feel lucky to have known him and the Poland China breed was lucky to have him as a breeder. Eugene will be missed dearly. Above is his obituary where you can see the details of his arrangements.
