I'm in no way disputing that many of the best Polands to surface in recent years have been carriers. My point is that if there were no carriers, there would still be a Poland sire of the year, correct? I'm also not disputing what carriers bring to the show ring...nobody will dispute the added muscle/expression that is offered. But is the industry as a whole actually out anything if every hog in America was a negative (can open it up to more than just Polands)? And if so, what am I missing? So far the argument has been that carriers have a track record of beating negatives in the show ring...but if there aren't carriers, something still has to win the show right? (And before you assume I'm simply being difficult, I actually enjoy the debate as there are different arguments for and against everything. The stress gene is one of those that I can't come up with a "we have to keep this because..." sort of reason - and since the conversation was opened,it seemed like a good forum to have a conversation.)
