Re: passing of Larry mapes
Don, just saw your message this morning when I came in from chores to warm up and have a cup of coffee. 50 years is a long time ago and I don't remember as well as I should, but, YES, I remember the boar. He was a son of Precision CSMC and was a CMS himself You used a couple of home bred sons as well - - Daddy Longfellow and Distinction (that doesn't sound quite right but has to be close). They all sired tremendous sets of top cutting pigs, tested boars, and, many, many champions for you and the gilts were also the basis of your sowherd. I think you certified about every litter you farrowed and always had actual BF probes (actually all 3) and LEA scans on about every boar and gilt you sold. They enabled you to more than hold your own in the heyday of the likes of Callahan & Jordan's, Don Orr, Prewett, Bob Wilson, B.J. Ferguson, Russell Harris, Parker Kilmer, Fred Smith & Sons, Carl Kline, and many more, at Indiana, Louisville, and the Hi-Lite. And to the Mapes family, my sincere condolences in your loss of Larry. Frank
