Three Chicago broadcasters have been accused of fraudulently lending their institutional credibility to a convicted mortgage-fraud felon running what state officials called a “Ponzi-like scheme” to take money from the elderly, retired and working class in Chicago’s Black communities.

The downside of airing infomercials within news casts using anchors to do it, making it look like it is a news story being presented.

Same crap I recently heard when v103 had Joe Soto interacting with a lawyer firm for car accidents, like they were best friends having an everyday discussion.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. This stupid prize will cost a lot in the long run.

If I could, and I'm straying a bit, but when listening on the radio, this one had a new car, garage floor, windows, roofing, et al.
This is every station, every format. When I hear stuff like that, the message is quite diluted!
You can't ALL have gotten a new car, garage floor, windows, roofing, et al.

I am guessing it's cheaper to have a station voice do an ad rather than have a professional sounding commercial.

John, back in the day, when it was just a day, think AM radio + 80s & 90s FM power stations, jocks doing spots held weight because we KNEW the jocks. Lujack, Winston, Phillips, Steve & Gary, Eddie & JoBo, Brandmeir, etc... Outside of a few names these days, who gives 2 craps if a jock voices an ad? People are barely listening, hardly know the stations anymore and definitely do not know most of the jocks when consultants, owners and PPM limit them to 12 seconds of voice when the mic cracks open.

Z, In my case, I just never bought a window because "Fancy Nancy" or "Big Al" said I should. There were "live reads" back then, I know, and maybe, possibly, because they were live, they were funny.
(There was room to be HUMAN. Now all is recorded. No room for error.) The jock might flub up or whatever, but when you have the same ads on several stations, these people can't ALL need new windows....can they?

I am assuming the pay is lower and A) in the 60's 70's they did record hops, B) now they all buy windows I guess.....

The times, they are a changin'........

Radio has always, even more now, targeted women. That is why the Daytime AM stations used to thrive. Mom would be home cooking, cleaning, or making the grocery list to go spend the money, as kid(s) were in school, listening to the local AM station if not the big 50KW blowtorches. The local station was much more relatable, local, friendly. Major reason, besides technology, why those AM Daytimers are gone, as they are no longer relevant or productive.

Point is, you and I are not women and those live reads would not relate to us as much as they did to women.

To be honest, if you think of it, they advertise 1-2x an hour, how many times a day, a week, a campaign, a year???? Ya think that might, just might add to the cost of the windows, car or something?

BTW, just got "This Business of Radio Programming." Can't put it down!

Now off to Dollar General. The only glass (not window) is a new glass for the beer. I think I can afford that, hi!
