Have your pencils & scorecards ready. With the MLB regular season right around the corner, you will need a scorecard to figure out the many channels to find Major League Baseball again this season.
For Cubs' fans, it's not just Marquee Sports Network again. Games will also air on FOX, FS1, MLB Network, ESPN, NBC, Peacock and Apple TV+. It's the last of these channels that I'm bringing to your attention.
Apple TV+ has announced its "Friday Night Baseball" schedule for the first half of the upcoming season. While there won't be any White Sox games, the Cubs will be featured 3 times in the first half of the season.
Apple's first Cubs' game will be Friday, April 24 when the Cubs will face the World Champion Dodgers in Los Angeles in what could be a potential playoff preview. First pitch is scheduled for 9:15P (CT) from Dodger Stadium. It will be the second game of a doubleheader starting with Phillies/Braves at 6:15P (CT) that Friday night.
The Cubs' home game vs the Astros Friday, May 22 at 1:20P (CT) will be the first game of a doubleheader that day on Apple TV+ with Tigers/Orioles in Baltimore in the nightcap.
Finally, the Cubs & Brewers rematch in Milwaukee Friday, June 26 at 6:45P (CT) for the first time since the Brewers eliminated the Cubs in the NLDS last October.
These games will NOT be available on Marquee Sports Network, but Cub fans can still listen to the games with Pat Hughes, Ron Coomer & Zach Zaidman on 670 AM/104.3 FM The SCORE for the home team call.
Veteran broadcasters Wayne Randazzo, Alex Faust & Rich Waltz will call the MLB Network-produced games with returning analysts Ryan Spilborghs & Dontrelle Willis. Heidi Watney & Tricia Whitaker return as respective dugout reporters from field level.
Apple TV+'s schedule starts March 27 with Angels/Astros in Houston followed by Guardians/Mariners in Seattle.
As for the schedule along with related quotes, this link covers all the bases:
We discussed last week the lack of spring training coverage. The White Sox v Cubs game today at 3 p.m. will be on CHSN but not Marquee. No other televised Sox games and one Cub game this week.
Will be interesting to see whom will be the announcers. Last eeek the Seattle radio team did announcing for Six game.
Re: The Cubs On Apple TV+'s "Friday Night Baseball"
It will be on ESPN 1000 AM for White Sox fans this afternoon when the Cubs & Sox play a Cactus League game in Glendale, AZ in addition to CHSN, Detective, but that wasn’t the idea of this post though.
What’s not happening with MLB’s Spring Training broadcast schedule is a league wide issue this spring, and I think goes beyond our local teams. Don’t forget a handful of MLB players are participating in the World Baseball Classic, which continues today on FOX as well as FOX Sports 1 & 2 respectively.
This post was about the return of “Friday Night Baseball” to Apple TV+’s schedule and the fact the Cubs will have 3 games and likely more this season. The Sox simply aren’t “Must See TV” in the eyes of MLB’s broadcast partners.
Not one Sox game aired on a channel other than CHSN or the Sox Radio Network last season. The team being historically bad doesn’t help.
