"The Point" Is...WGN 9 Launches New Political Show

You may have noticed "Chicago's Very Own" WGN 9 has become very news heavy over the last several years, even with the Nexstar Media-owned outlet becoming Chicago's CW station once again in September 2024.

"The Point" I'm trying to make (See what I did there?) is that WGN is about to add another news show to its daily lineup...But there's a twist. It's only airing for 15 minutes.

WGN announced the launch of "The Point", described as a nightly political show with host Tahman Bradley, the station's Political Editor, informing viewers about politics and how it affects daily lives. The show will also feature original reporting & in-depth interviews, based on the press release.

"The Point" will only air at 6:45P (CT) weeknights starting Monday, January 26th on WGN as well as the station's Website & WGN+ app.

Yes this will be interesting. You have 15 minutes in a standard 30 minute block. Not sure how "in depth" fits in a 15 minute block and how to do they actually sell ads for this so it generates income? What happens to the rest of the 15 minutes of the 30 minute block? Is this going to be 15 minutes of commercials and build in ads and 15 minutes of content over 30 minutes? Or will Nexstar corporate which is very Right leaning, use this to push a narrative like Sinclair does? Guess time will tell, what "the point" is.

Z, that's the part I don't know when "The Point" premieres January 26 on WGN 9.

Will it be a straight 15 minute, uninterrupted daily report on the day's political news? Will it be 2 segments with 1 commercial break sandwiched in between? Those are the parts of this that I'm not sure about.

The other part...I don't know why they're only devoting 15 minutes to political news & talk when there's so much news about it to begin with.

Why not make it a 30 minute show like FOX 32 has with host/Political Editor Paris Schutz has with "The Chicago Report" at 10P (CT) weeknights. Oh by the way, since when did FOX 32 start branding itself as FOX Chicago again?

While it was a play on words to me, "The Point" seems as lame of a title as "WGN-TV Political Report" which Tahman Bradley also hosts Sunday mornings.

Nexstar is planning on purchasing WTBC 100.3. They're bringing back the WPNT callsign, and will air the 15 minutes of audio from 'The Point' (followed by 15 min commercial breaks) in a 24 hour loop daily.

I see what you did there, Rockola. One of 100.3 FM's many legal IDs and brands over the years.

Not to be confused with an alternative rock station in St. Louis branded that, let alone an NHL studio of the same name that airs on ESPN2 from time to time.

Yea, I too cannot see much done in 15 minute spot. He is a Chicago area native, so that is a plus.
