When Marquee Sports Network signed on 1 month before the 2020 pandemic changed everything, one of the network's first hires was hiring Mike McCarthy, former President of New York's MSG Network, to be President & CEO of the Cubs-powered regional sports network.
McCarthy stepped down from his position at Marquee for health reasons in December 2023, but there were some eyebrows raised when he resurfaced earlier this year at Chicago Sports Network in June as Chief Operating Officer. He replaced Jason Coyle as President/General Manager of CHSN in September as a result of a management shakeup at the now 1 year old home of the Bulls, Blackhawks & White Sox.
In a lengthy conversation with the Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest, McCarthy discusses his time starting up not just Marquee then, but CHSN now.
McCarthy's lengthy conversation can be found here, and he covers a lot of ground:
I saw a CHSN commercial promoting it, a few times this week, watching Pluto TV (a commercial based content delivery service using an app via IP delivery, also capable of watching it via web browser anywhere). I was either watching Mission Impossible or Star Trek channel. Can assume they are targeting older male demos w/ the commercial. But a lot of the commercials on PlutoTV are recycled across channels, sometimes as filler, because they are Spanish language and def out of place!
