As Polnet Communications Ltd. (“Polnet”) indicated in its Request for Silent STA, Station WRDZ(AM) was forced to suspend operations on November 17, 2024, because its transmitter became inoperable. In the STA Request, Polnet reported that its engineer was not able to repair the transmitter or purchase a new one. Since then, Polnet has been negotiating with a potential buyer who is trying to work out a tower lease. Once that is done, Polnet will file an application and resume operations before the one year expiration date. Thus, Polnet respectfully requests a silent Special Temporary Authorization to allow the Station to remain silent until the station is sold or Polnet repairs or replaces the transmitter at the current site.
Owners of these small AMs can’t (or won’t) even get some cheap-ass import transmitter and hook it to that 1/8-wave antenna stick from the recent app to momentarily interrupt their silence.
When I say “won’t”, there is no malice in that. They simply cannot justify a dollar toward any equipment.
Do you think there is a business need for loaner transmitter and antenna equipment, just for an outgoing owner to stave off having to file a Silent STA? Or, is that considered disingenuous by the FCC?
The business need also involves loaner tx equipment cost and also the cost of the engineer to assemble/fire it up. I am certain they have no FT engineer on premisses and are contracting someone. $$$
I also strongly doubt there is a potential buyer. It is time to move on.
