Apparently Connoisseur Media is buying Alpha Media. What kinds of changes can we expect in the Chicago area?

I read this in the article:

Alpha’s “live and local” radio philosophy. Yeah....

Them buying Alpha gives the a lot of weight and into the Chicago market. They can tell national advertisers "We are in market #3". But we all know that is not really true.

Do not be surprised if they can get funding they will try to move in some of their signals. Also is any come up for sale that are full power, they will try to get in on the game.

The thing I wonder about is what their ultimate business goal is and how they plan to achieve it. Do they plan to retain everything they are buying or will they shed some of the signals. I'm thinking they'll trim the fat right away (even though these stations have become quite skinny). They are buying a company that has a much bigger portfolio - it will be very interesting to see how this plays out over the next couple of years.

I don’t know if there are any move-in opportunities left with these stations, because of their distance to other full-power stations, including those on alternate channels (spaced 0.4 MHz).

I wonder if they would try to snag some of the co-channel translators (under different ownership), like 96.7 or 98.3 downtown. The 95.1’s in and around Chicago carried WIIL Rock when they first signed on. They could combine 100.7 WRXQ and 95.1 WIIL into a metrocast like they recently did with WCCQ+WXLC Free Country. I think WRXQ is LMA’d with Walnut Media and runs Hard Drive XL every evening and overnight.

Too, interesting that WLIP nor WJOL has an FM translator. Don't know of 'JOL, but the "AM 10-50 WLIP" ... why emphasize "AM"?

For a year or so, I recall WJOL being carried on WSSR-HD2 but apparently the fees for the second HD feed were not worth it. WJOL doesn't have a translator. Apparently there are still enough listeners with AM radios or via streaming for them to keep a couple dayparts live+local, as well as local sports coverage. WJOL has the presentation of a professional, established news and community station.
