RIP Wink Martindale

Most obits are describing his long career as a TV game show host, as well as his early radio shows which included interviews with "newcomer" Elvis Presley (they became lifelong friends).

But for us "locals," he may be most remembered
for his syndicated Christmas Eve/Day show which ran on METV-FM. He played the "Top 100" holiday hits from the past 9 decades. Yes, there is more to Christmas music than Mariah and Bing! Hope someone will continue this tradition in the future.

ChiTownGal, I think there is so many years of him recorded, along with people hearing it once a year, it can be recycled. You will not have "new" songs in the countdown, unless his estate rules they can use AI to voice him. (I shuddered typing that last sentence, but it is true).

Wink Martindale is best known as host of "Tic Tac Dough". The game show, from the minds of Jack Barry & Dan Enright, aired on CBS in 1978, but lasted until 1986 in syndication. Interestingly enough, Barry himself hosted the original version of the classic game show dating as far back as 1956 on NBC, per the show's Wikipedia page. The same Jack Barry that also hosted, created & executive produced "The Joker's Wild".

Wink's passing came 1 day after Game Show Network debuted the 4th version of "Tic Tac Dough", this time with onetime former "Baywatch" star Brooke Burns. Game Show Network's new version of "TTD" premiered Monday.

The very week that Game Show Network debuted a new, modern reboot of "Tic Tac Dough" with host Brooke Burns, it was revealed today that "The Network for Games" will present a special homage in memory of Wink Martindale this weekend.

Classic episodes of "TTD" from the '70s & '80s hosted by Martindale will air Easter Sunday afternoon from 1-5P (CT) on Game Show Network.

Game Show Network can be found on DIRECTV 233 for customers like me.

I read other social media and forums, people were hoping the new one that aired this week would pay homage to Wink, but they were recorded a year ago!?!?!?!?!?

Buzzr airs primarily classic game shows from the Mark Goodson/Bill Todman library, which are now distributed by Fremantle Media.

Wink Martindale wasn't on a Goodson/Todman game show that much. I remember that he & his wife guest starred on "Tattle Tales" with host Bert Convy circa 1976 & also appeared on a special "Game Show Host Week" of the original "Card Sharks" with host Jim Perry circa 1980. The latter of which featured some of Martindale's fellow hosts such as "Password Plus" host Allen Ludden & "Blockbusters" host Bill Cullen all playing the card game for their favorite charities.

To make a long story short, Game Show Network is owned by SONY. Those classic episodes of "Tic Tac Dough" which aired Sunday afternoon were originally executive produced & co-created by legendary game show producers Jack Barry & Dan Enright. The Barry & Enright library is now distributed by SONY, which is Game Show Network's parent company.

There's also the issue of whether the original master tapes remain intact to this day and can still air to this day. It was standard operating procedure not to preserve certain master tapes when it came to game shows.
