Even though MLB Spring Training camps are just opening in Florida & Arizona, there's a little news about something that's been a "Leadoff" to MLB's Sunday schedule the last few years.
Yesterday, MLB & The Roku Channel announced its schedule for its 2nd season of its "Sunday Leadoff" package. The ballgames, which are produced by MLB Network, will be available for free on The Roku Channel as well as MLB.TV for subscribers.
However, the games will NOT be available where you are normally accustomed. Those "Leadoff" games will be exclusive on The Roku Channel and not available on the participating teams' regular outlets.
That leads me to the Chicago Cubs & New York Mets. Roku's first "Leadoff" game this season will take place Sunday, May 11 @ 10:35A (CT). You read that right. Breakfast or perhaps brunch with the Cubs & Mets. This game won't be on Marquee for the Cubs & SNY (SportsNet NY) for the Mets.
Although the announcers haven't been revealed, it's very likely that this game will be called by a mix of broadcasters from the participating teams. When the Cubs hosted the St. Louis Cardinals last spring, former Cubs' TV voice Chip Caray called the game with Joe Girardi (Cubs) & Jim Edmonds (Cardinals) in the booth. Marquee's versatile Elise Menaker was the dugout reporter.
The Cubs/Mets' game on May 11 is the first of an 18 game schedule of "Sunday Leadoff" games that will air on Roku. There are no White Sox games among the 18 that'll air this spring & summer.
