It's been maddening to be a Chicago sports fan with all the losing, regardless of which team you cheer for. However, there are still some good things when we watch & listen to Chicago's teams.
One of them is Chicago's very own Adam Amin. In Jeff Agrest's 5th Annual list of Chicago Sports Media power rankings, the TV voice of the Bulls tops the annual list for the second time.
Agrest cited Amin's ability to seamlessly work with a new analyst on "NFL on FOX" broadcasts this season with former QB Mark Sanchez, his preparation for game broadcasts as well as transitioning from football, basketball & even baseball for FOX & FS1, along with posting Instagram videos. The on air chemistry he has with Stacey King on Bulls' broadcasts also has to help. Amin topped this same list in 2023.
Cubs Radio Network's Pat Hughes is second on this list followed by another Cubs' broadcaster, TV voice Jon "Boog" Sciambi at #3.
The full list, if you can get through the dreaded paywall, can be found here:
Very interesting list of The Top 20, then at the bottom are those who missed the list this year and their previous rank: Dropping out: Danny Parkins (9), Jeff Joniak (18), Ruthie Polinsky (19), Marshall Harris (20).
"Chicago sports-media power rankings: The bottom five" We released the top 20 in our annual rankings. Here’s our bottom five, listed in descending order.
I'm not at all surprised that John Schriffen topped the "Bottom 5" list in Chicago Sports Media, according to the Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest.
I was surprised that Schriffen got the job replacing Jason Benetti as the principal TV voice of the Chicago White Sox, but even more surprised how raw he sounded in his first season on the job. It sounded as if Schriffen's lack of baseball broadcast experience was crystal clear. It also didn't help that Schriffen didn't seem to take the criticism from 670 AM The SCORE very well at all.
Like the Sox on the field, Schriffen has no place to go but up and he hopes to improve considerably as the team relocates their broadcasts to CHSN this spring & summer.
Speaking of CHSN, David Haugh has entered a place that I don't think he'd like to be in. That category is overexposure.
It's one thing to hear and see him co-host 670 AM The SCORE's popular "Mully & Haugh Show" with Mike Mulligan every weekday morning. It's another that he's co-hosting 2 other daily shows on CHSN in "The BIG Pro Football Show" with ex-NBC 5 sports anchor/reporter Ruthie Polinsky & former NFL tight end Clay Harbor followed immediately by "The Chicago Lead" that also features Brooke Fletcher & Camron Smith, formerly of Stadium Network. With all due respect to Haugh, CHSN bosses should have tapped into other Chicago sports media talent to co-host the other daily shows on their schedule. Haugh's SCORE teammate, Gabe Ramirez, has been subbing for Fletcher the last couple days as Brooke is about to get married this weekend. Sorry, guys.
Coincidentally, is it just me or is CHSN's set at United Center similar to the one on Stadium?
