Interesting to note, Jason Benetti was the Illinois Sportscaster of the Year just last year by the same National Sports Media Association that gave the award this year to Cubs Radio Network's Pat Hughes, also of Marquee Sports Network.
For the record, Benetti may have a voice for radio, but he's the TV voice of the Detroit Tigers on what's now called FanDuel Sports Network Detroit. Benetti isn't the radio voice in Detroit. He still does a lot of national play-by-play for MLB, College Football & College Basketball for FOX Sports and FS1 respectively.
Benetti will occasionally do radio however via Westwood One on its NFL & NCAA Basketball Tournament coverage.
Just setting the record straight.
Re: NSMA Michigan Sportscaster of the Year: Jason Benetti
I appreciate the kind words. What helps is doing a great deal of research as well as occasionally providing some background.
Truth be told, I miss Jason Benetti, and it has nothing to do with him leaving the White Sox for the Tigers. Benetti also called his fair share of Bulls' games whenever his fellow FOX Sports' teammate Adam Amin was on NFL assignment during the first 2 months of the NBA season.
Once Benetti left for Detroit, I think that also went his occasional gig as Bulls' TV PBP voice, too. That may also explain ABC 7's Mark Schanowski, 670 AM The SCORE's Zach Zaidman & even Georgia Tech radio voice & Oak Brook native Andy Demetra all filling in when Amin's away.
