Countless morning shows in Chicago radio have crashed and burned. Some took longer than others.
Bob & Tom Show>>>WRCX-FM Rock 103-5 Rover's Morning Glory Show>>>WCKG-FM 105.9 Howard Stern>>>WCKG-FM 105.9...In the case of Howard, his main competitor was Mancow on Rock 103-5. Howard Stern eventually left FM and continued his show on satellite radio.
I have furnished a link so readers can take a look at the ratings between the two. In nearly all ratings surveys, Mancow was the winner. If you scroll down the page, you will see the ratings.
I'm sure there are many other failed morning shows. The experts on this board will likely fill in the blanks.

Howard was on WCKG until he left broadcast for SiriusXM. I don't consider that to be failed in particular. Was his own doing.
Everything on WCKG except Dahl pretty much bombed when he left. That was the result of CBS Radio trying to survive without him. Rover in particular wasn't a bad show, but it wasn't based in Chicago and just didn't work there. CBS Radio tried to do Hot Talk (Free FM) all over the country with numerous shows trying to replace Stern. None of those stations exist anymore.
Rover's Morning Glory is actually still on the air in Ohio at it's flagship and a few other affiliate stations.
Bob & Tom was a filler for WRCX. They probably already planned to flip the format at that point.
By the way, pardon my mistake in the last comment. Rover was not based in Chicago initially. It was brought to Chicago and syndicated to other stations but it was never a Chicago specific show in the same way B96's last morning show was.
"Rover's Morning Glory" failed in Chicago because at the time, WCKG-FM 105.9's audience was geared towards those over age 35. Rover's audience turned out to be those ages 18-34.
Back then, when Howard Stern left terrestrial radio for SiriusXM in 2006, CBS Radio tried to fill Howard's void with 3 different morning radio options, depending on market.
Out East, former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth replaced Stern on CBS Radio stations out East, while comic & longtime "Loveline" host Adam Carolla hosted mornings on CBS Radio outlets out West. "Rover's Morning Glory" was handpicked for Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, St. Louis & Memphis. Rover's ratings in Chicago alone were so bad, 105.9 FM once scored a zero rating. Seriously.
For the record, "Rover's Morning Glory" is still on the air at WMMS-FM in Cleveland. Rover signed with WMMS in 2008 and was immediately yanked from CBS Radio when he signed with a rival station.
Rover's show airs mainly on much smaller markets such as Columbus & Youngstown, OH, Louisville, West Palm Beach, FL & Erie, PA while originating in Cleveland on the rock station branded there as "The Buzzard".
