If 670 AM The SCORE wants to find a replacement for Danny Parkins alongside Matt Spiegel on what's now called "SCORE Afternoons", they will have to look elsewhere.
On his Ringer podcast, Jason Goff won't be going back to WSCR after talks broke down. According to the Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest, Goff said that Audacy wanted him to discontinue his own podcast entitled "The Full Go".
The news that Goff won't be going back to The SCORE comes as news surfaced he'll continue to host Bulls' pre & postgame with Kendall Gill on the new CHSN when it launches next month.
As radio has devalued and devolved and pays less and is less of an influencer and (fill in your blank), negotiations to continue side projects is very common. I know it seems like a WTF moment, but he can be gone from The Score in 1 month, his podcast, will not. 🤷🏻♂️
I think it goes beyond talks that broke down and the story about Audacy wanting Jason Goff to end his own podcast via The Ringer.
With Goff following the Bulls to their new TV home at CHSN, there would also be days when the Bulls would be playing basketball in the Eastern time zone. For road games in places like Detroit, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York & Boston, Goff would have to leave The SCORE early to accommodate his CHSN schedule. Hypothetically, of course.
With Goff now officially out of the mix, it's unclear if 670 AM The SCORE will hire from within and promote one of its part time hosts as a full time choice to work with Matt Spiegel.
They've been utilizing guys like Anthony Herron, a SCORE Football analyst also with FOX 32 & the Big Ten Network, NBC 5 sports anchor/reporter Ruthie Polinsky, former B96 morning man Gabe Ramirez, SCORE Bears' reporter & part time host Mark Grote & former CBS 2 sports anchor Marshall Harris among the guest co-hosts since Danny Parkins bolted for FS1 in New York about 3 weeks ago.
There's also a school of thought that The SCORE might not want to fill the void now that Parkins has made the transition from sports talk radio to TV full time. I don't know if that's a possibility having Spiegel fly solo long term, but stay tuned.
670 AM The SCORE is moving Laurence Holmes to afternoons with Matt Spiegel effective TODAY from 2-5P in advance of Cubs/Phillies in Philadelphia.
I don't have a press release, but with the rumored Jason Goff deal falling through, management at the Audacy-owned sports talk, Cubs & Bulls flagship decided to promote from within.
It also likely means Dan Bernstein will be flying solo middays from 10A-2P weekdays.
More details hopefully to follow as the day progresses.
Marshall Harris, former CBS 2 sports anchor who has been filling in on 670 AM The SCORE for a few months now, will replace Laurence Holmes middays with Dan Bernstein starting next Monday, per the Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest.
The report adds NBC 5 sports anchor Leila Rahimi will continue to co-host Wednesdays.
If I had a press release, I would have more details. Stay tuned.
